Summer 2025 Gardening Plans
Over the past three years, we have seen many things grow in our humble backyard garden. From brassicas like Brussels sprouts and collard greens, to strawberries and peppers, we’ve continued to add variety and learn more about growing, and it’s been a fun family affair. During the warm season, the temperatures range from 57-80+ degrees from May to September. We live in the heart of the city, and the climate has recently returned to more moderate conditions from when I remember growing up.

Our 17" VegoGarden raised bed is perfectly placed in full sun and has been filled with transplants of various herbs, flowers, and even sprouts we’ve grown from seed right here in our backyard. Though it’s still in its beginning stages, I’m hoping it develops into the space we can come home to and rest and continue to cultivate season after season, and where I can watch it transform little by little from our kitchen window.

Here are some plants currently featured this season in our garden:
-
We’ve recently planted our apricot in a large planter and peach trees in the ground. Last year, we were also given two plumeria cuttings, and we’ve waited for the cuttings to fully develop so we can replant them in larger terra-cotta colored planters that complement our outdoor decor.
-
We’ve added more flowers for attracting pollinators, like nasturtium, zinnias, sunflowers, and salvia.
-
We will rotate vegetables & fruits like beans, watermelon, tomatoes, and eggplant throughout the season. Tons of sprouts have taken over our space, and we'll place the vining plants (beans, watermelon, and tomatoes) along a trellis this year to maximize our growing space.
-
We transplanted herbs for both cooking and with added benefits for pest control, like yarrow, mint, parsley, chives, alyssum, calendula, and basil
